VROUWENLEVEN

"Vrouwenleven" roughly translates to "The lives of women", a common theme in 17th century Dutch art. However, these paintings constantly showed bored women doing household tasks, which I felt stifled other depictions of women at the time. I pulled from other paintings of figures like Judith as a warrior and combined them with another favorite style of Dutch painting--food still lifes--to depict an idealized "life of women": one where luxury and excess can be enjoyed but women can still be in control of their narrative.
